Things That Attract My Eye – Part 11

These images are just random images that I have taken over time, when the opprtunity presents itself. Hope you enjoy them. 🙂

“In The Drainer” – Walking into the kitchen one late afternoon I was struck by the design elements of 2 plastic, translucent cutting boards and a wire cooking implement that were draining after being washed.
“Internal Design” – Sydney Opera House. The family went into see a Show at the Opera House and we were waiting to be allowed in so me eyes started wandering… 🙂
“Towards Enlightenment” – Taken at Lake Burragorang (about 10 minutes drive from where we live).

Awareness. One of our greatest gifts.

Till next time!

Things That Attract My Eye – Part 10

The images below were taken last week when my Wife, Susan & went into the City (Sydney) for lunch to celebrate our 27th Wedding Anniversary.

After a long lunch, we took a casual stroll around Circular Quay just relaxing and enjoying the views.

“Seeing Double” – The Sydney Harbour Bridge reflected in the windows
of the Sydney Opera House.
“Mosaic” – Reflections in an office building at Circulay Quay. Taken from the Cahill Expressway.
“Design” – Part of the large sandstone tiles at the front of the Sydney Opera House.

Beauty is all around us. We just need to be ‘aware.’

Till next time!

Things That Attract My Eye – Part 9

We have moved house since the last instalment and so that opens up new opportunities for image-taking. Please the comments on each of the 9 images below.

Sunrise – Taken from our back deck.
Taken from our backyard. Have always enjoyed photographing clouds.
I was on my way to the gym one morning and had to stop the car three times to take Sunrise images as the Sunrise was so beautiful that morning.
Taken on a recent trip to the Sydney CBD to buy Art supplies and do some en Plein air sketching/painting. Always pays to look up!
I remember (as a child & not often as an adult), I used to lay on the grass and stare at the sky and watched as the cloud formed into different shapes. A very relaxing experience. Must do it again.
Lake Burragorang Lookout. This is a very popular picnic spot that is now only 10 minutes drive away from where we live. 🙂
This was another image I took that morning on the way to the gym. There are photo opportunities everywhere, so remember to look down as well. 🙂
Taken from the backyard again. Tempted to call this ‘Fingers of Light’ or ‘God’s Fingers.’
This one was also taken that morning on the way to the gym. So glad I stopped three times on the way… P.S. I did actually make it to the gym in the end! 🙂

I hope you enjoyed my latest selection.

Till next time!

Things That Attract My Eye – Part 8

This recent collection features clouds, cacti and a few other things. The cacti flowers are from my own plants and (as with no doubt many people), clouds have always fascinated me.

I recall as a child, often laying on the grass, looking up at the clouds as they drifted on by, slowly altering shape. It was and remains, a wonderful way to relax. Remember to pop on some sunscreen though.

Things That Attract My Eye Part 7

I’ve often said that walking is a great way to clear the mind, do some exercise and I always come up with a few ideas, whether they be for our business, a poem, a painting, sketch etc.

It’s also a way to sharpen our senses and awareness. There is so much beauty around is, natural or man-made, and on my walks, I love to capture this. Here are some more examples of ‘things that attract my eye.’

Till next time! 🙂

The Stories These Trees Could Tell…

One of my favourite subjects to photograph is Tree Bark. Early morning and late afternoon are my favourite times to do this. It is at those times when the beauty, texture and colour really comes to life.

I hope you enjoy these images.

Till next time! 🙂

Contre Jour – Leaves

We are very fortunate that we live close to a really relaxing place to walk. Fortunately, we are higher up away from a river that has been known to flood over the years, and in particular, the last 2-3 years.

Normally, it is a wondrous place to walk…so relaxing and because light is what it is, you get to see different subjects lit differently even if you walk at the same time each day.

One of the things I really like to watch out for is ‘Contre jour’ or ‘against the light.’ In particular, trees, shrubs and of of course leaves really come to life with this type of lighting. Here are a few recent images I took. Hope you enjoy them.

Late Afternoon Walk

Last Sunday, late in the afternoon I had just finished off an A4 Watercolour when I looked out the window and saw the beautiful Spring light. It was too much of a temptation and I knew I had to get out there and go for a walk.

I finished up walking 3.3 km (2 miles) down at the Camden Bike Track which runs along a major river in the Sydney Basin. The track is about two minutes walk from where live which is great.

Here are some images I shot on my walk with a phone camera. Such a relaxing walk to cap off my Sunday.

Things That Attract My Eye – Part 6

Welcome to the 6th post of ‘Things That Attract My Eye.

Half of the images were taken near or not far from home and the others on short drives. Once again, they all taken on a phone camera and at all different times of the day. It pays to look up, to down and most importantly you need to be ‘present’…to take in the beauty (either man-made or natural) that is all around us.

Till next time!

The Character of Trees

When I go for a walk, I love looking at trees.

Each tree has its own special character. The branches often remind me of veins or arteries. Here are a few that I’ve come across recently. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. 🙂 All shot on an iPhone 8Plus.

Till next time!
